Forum: What To Do About Pakistan's Nukes?
Monday February 18, 2008
Back in November, Frederick Kagan of the conservative American Enterprise Institute and Michael O'Hanlon of the slightly less conservative Brookings Institution wrote a column in the New York Times saying the United States should be prepared to intervene militarily in Pakistan to seize Pakistan's nuclear stockpile (possibly ship it to the United States) and help the Pakistani military control some of the country's larger cities.
A couple of questions:
- Is military (or any kind) of U.S. intervention in Pakistan wise? Keep in mind that U.S. attacks in Pakistan would be nothing new. There was one in 2005, and another missile strike at the end of January.
- If an extremist regime were to control the country, what should the West's response be, and what to do with Pakistan's nukes?
