Internet Usage in the Middle East, 2000-2008

From , former About.com Guide

As in every part of the globe, Internet usage in the Middle East is exploding, and at a pace far exceeding that of the rest of the globe. Between 2000 and 2008, combined Internet usage in 14 Middle Eastern countries grew almost 1,200%, compared with growth of around 300% in the rest of the world.

The faster pace in the Middle East is due in part to its belated connectivity, so while growth figures are impressive, overall connectivity, or penetration, at less than 22%, remains remains below the world average.

The following chart breaks down Internet connectivity country by country.
