It's not that the United States doesn't think the Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal. It does, and they are: the United Nations has termed them as such repeatedly. But the Obama administration prefers to call the settlements "illegitimate." It's a game of euphemism designed to mask a greater ploy: to prevent looking isolated, with Israel, in opposition to an outright condemnation of the settlements. A draft UN resolution would do just that: condemn the settlements. The United States is not signing on. Isn't it time it did?
