From the article: False Fears and Shameless Pandering in Opposition to Ground Zero Mosque
The proposal to build a $100 million, 13-story mosque two blocks from ground zero is provoking heated reactions. Should the mosque be built there? The question itself sounds offensive to many, Muslims especially. What makes a mosque near ground zero any less legitimate than a church or a synagogue? And what does it say about people's opposition that, despite the fact that the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Muslims, the entire Muslim world, especially the more than half million Muslims in New York, must answer to those attacks? Are the two even related? You make the call.
Islam is not a religion of peace
- One only has to look at Sweden and Norway to see that islam is NOT a religion of peace. The rape and theft of the 'unbeleiver' by muslim men is astronmical. Their reasoning is the 'unbeleiver' has no value therefor nothing immoral about rape and theft of 'unbeleiver's'.It now appear's muslims immigrating to western countries are not doing so to assimulate into the culture but to invade it. The prophet mohammad after invading..killed..raped stole and made slaves of the victim's.Every middle eastern country has oppressed and denied basic human right's to christian's and 'unbeleiver's.NOT IN AMERICA!

No, no to a mosque near ground zero
- No mosque should be built near or around ground zero for any reason. Would a businessman put a business near on or around ground zero if he is aware of a mosque being built in the neighborhood? Is America becoming a softie for the terrorists’ world? Are we that gullible to believe deceiving, soft-spoken Imam Abdul Rauf about community and living peaceable? Yea right! In so many words he said that no other spot will suffice. That is the spot or there will be appraisal from the radical muslins. The muslin world has always erect mosques on targeted sites or lands they have conquered. It is a know fact. They have already vowed to bring the West down to its knees until every Christian or non-Christian in America and Israel become a muslin or be prepared to die if there is retaliation. Feisal Abdul Rauf, founder of the American Society for Muslim Advancement, who blamed the United States for 9-11 because of our treatment of Muslims. He said that Osama Bin Laden was made in the USA.

- you are not only a lapsed methodist you are anti-christ in spirit. Jesus did not did not hate, but he did clearly state there is only one way to the Father God, and that was through Himself only! You espouse what is so common in our society today-universalism. To the other mindless comparisons of Timothy McVeigh who was christian in name only, such as David Parkin, to draw an analogy between the islamic muslims who died to further their cause and T. McVeigh is ridiculous!!

No more mosques please
- I am a secular Muslim and I am fiercely opposed to building a mosque near 9/11 site. Mosques are not a priority. What is needed is a rapid solution to the Israeli-Arab conflict. On the other hand in Muslim countries they need schools that teach tolerance, acceptance of other religion and other beliefs, emancipation of women and the abolition of barbaric Sharia punishments. More economic growth to help eliminate unemployment. Educational programs to eliminate illiteracy. More clinics and health centres and less mosques please. If I have the power I would build an Inter-faith dialogue centre to promote peaceful co-existence and fighting extremism.

Yes
- Islam is a religion of peace. The Islamic diety referred above is God called Allah in the Arab language. The constitution of this country allows for religious freedom. Many military personal have died for that freedom. Some of them were Muslims.

Yes But NO
- I think we should be very careful what we ask for. I ask the question, should a christen monument be built near the federal building in OK City? Timothy McVeigh was a Christen. My point is this. Condemning an entire religion for the act of 19 is not logical. From a human perspective, I think it is a bad idea to build the Mosque near ground zero. The emotions run too high. The Mosque should be a place of peace and harmony. Not a place that invokes the most painful memories of so many families forever changed by the horrendous events of 9/11.

Mosque on ground zero
- Scenario as I see it: It is my understanding that this mosque plan was ongoing years before 9/11, but now with the negative side of Islam on most American minds, it certainly becomes a point of questionable ethics as to what activity will take place in that mosque and what it now symbolizes to the Islamic world if it is built. If that mosque would have been built 12 years ago, I do not believe that anyone would have even bothered to pay any attention to it. But now, some common sense and thoughts for the well being of the community must come into play here. This is emphasis mine: It feels to me most offensive that a building of this type will be built to hold other than just prayers to their deity. It has been found out these last few years that some of these places hold meetings to plan activity other than just peaceful prayers. They can thank their brothers of their faith for the cause of opposition to the building of this mosque. I too am opposed to its construction. K

Faith
- This hype reminds me of the countless buildings of faith accumulated in the Old Region of the World - Jerusalem. Judaism, Christianity and Islam, all sister religions, all bowing to One Lord, yet --- the matter of heart (love for human beings) is lacking. Buildings for fun or religions, for remembrance of loved ones at Ground Zero are just blocks. Look at the big picture of nature, the oil spill, the floods in other countries. All mankind has the same number of limbs, sense organs etc. nothing extra. Learn not to be aggressive. A synagogue, steeple or masjid should only elevate us all to the Creator of the Universe. All should be allowed to visit the places of worship and all should be allowed to be build. Let architecture reign supreme. Let the creative side of mankind be appreciated. Let us all unite and push back all past histories of war and pains. Our women and chilldren and elderly suffer. Let us subdue evil streaks and unite in good.

- So called Christians do a disservice to Jesus.Their hatred of Islam or anyone who disagrees with them contradicts the teachings of Christ. 9/11 was an appalling response to the war on Palestinians still being waged by Israel/US

Hold on!
- We have enough violent element in our society who may be Christian, Jewish, etc. that the fuss seems hypocritical at best, and unforgivably racist at worst. It might be interesting to look at the percentages of each religion that engage in violence.
- —Guest carol
Of Course!
- Islam has many faces; it's appropriate for those who do not act through violence to acknowledge the difference. I see the act as a kind of atonement--comparable perhaps to the monument to the murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin.
