Readers Respond: How Obama Can Earn the Nobel Peace Prize

Responses: 14

From , former About.com Guide

Winning the Nobel Prize is one thing. Earning it is another. Barack Obama has yet to earn it beyond setting the tone for conciliatory diplomacy and bridging divides among cultures. But how?

Three speeches set Obama's world view apart from his predecessor: hist first speech on Islam from Ankara, Turkey; his second speech on Islam and US-Arab relations from Cairo; and his speech from Prague projecting a world free of nuclear weapons. Each announced that the United States was no longer an exclusive "decider," but an international partner for peace.

Still: What, substantially, should Obama do next to earn his prize?

exactly that!

Exactly nothing. They seem to award the prize to non doers lately. God help us.

Promoting Peace throughout the world!!!

He is a believer in goodwill, equality, and peace. He wants a world without enemies. A safer place for our children. For those of you who don't want the same then maybe it's time you all look within yourselves. He's not a god and he will make mistakes, but if he did everything perfect we would be living a dream. Remember the sun shines after the storm. His intentions are good, but so many of you are too stubborn to look past trivial things. Have faith America. How would you run this country.

.. for the uninformed..

One.. for the people that have listed hope as "hope"- ignorance is definitely bliss. Hope is what people need, hope is what brings morale up, that vote of confidence in the idea that the financial crisis will better itself is positivity and positivity equals growth. Obviously, the "people" will not invest in the economy if they feel insecure and uncertain about their future/their family's well-being. The stock market will obviously worsen, people will stop buying stock, when that happens companies loose profit, when companies loose profit they must condense and lay-off their workers just to meet their overhead costs. If companies start laying off employees, then they obviously must collect unemployment (which is only half of what a person's salary would be normally) which means they will not buy that "tv", those "shoes" items that otherwise would sustain the overall economy of their respective cities, which means higher taxes, higher unemployment tax, higher payroll taxes..

Hope to whom?

Gitmo. Iran. Iraq. Afghanistan. Degrading women with Muslim support. Deficit. Unemployment. More money to Wall Street. HOPE? America is asleep.

What did HE do?

I can't believe Obama won the Prize by just BEING. I thought this was given to people who DID something toward Peace on Earth. Obama has yet to do anything. Hope??? Sure that's important, but it doesn't prove that he's done anything....not yet.

He deserves it, all the haters need to leave him alone. They need to put aside their envy and differences.

obama

What has Obama really done? He has increased our federal budget deficit 3-fold. He has allowed Iran and North Korea to continue to develop nuclear weapons to use against us. He has pushed for socialism and is against capitalism. He wants to ruin the best healthcare system in the world and lead our country into bankruptcy. He wants to be friends with our enemies. He supports much of the Islamic world that degrades women and does not support women's rights. So, why does he deserve the Nobel peace prize? Because he has done nothing to defend America.

The President

He has restored faith in our nation. He has shown up to the plate. He is working on so many programs. He has given us HOPE again!

Obama Nobel Peace Prize

Obama has given hope not only to the USA but to many in the world. He did not apply or ask for the Nobel Peace prize, he was awarded it for his efforts and aspirations. When you critisize the award of the Nobel Peace Prize you are critisizing the ones who awarded it not the receiver. Who are we to determine who should and shouldn't receive an award when we know nothing of what goes into the decision.

Earn it?

You're suppose to have earned it before you get it not afterwards. He should give it to Tsvangirai. The Nobel committee chairman saying he was awarded the prize "because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve.” So you can get a nobel just for trying now? Ridiculous.

Nuclear Non-Proliferation

If Obama can keep Iran from developing nuclear weapons while also advancing nuclear non-proliferation among the major powers, he would be worthy of the prize.

what obama should

guess its for the hopes he has given, and im sure he will put them into action, and get awarded again.God bless
